Amateur Radio Operator Appreciation Day

On March 25, 2019, operators from the Johnson County ARES/RACES team were recognized by the County Commissioners Court for their service to the community. They were presented with a plaque “in recognition of their outstanding loyal and dedicated service to the citizens of Johnson County, TX.”

 

The plaque presented to the volunteers “in recognition of their outstanding loyal and dedicated service to the citizens of Johnson County, Texas.”

 

The Commissioners Court also presented a proclamation:

WHEREAS, Each spring brings the potential for severe weather to significantly affect Texas; and

WHEREAS, Large portions of our state, including Johnson County, can be devastated by flooding, tornadoes, hail, windstorms and other emergencies; and

WHEREAS, Since 1950 the National Weather Service has recorded over 100 tornado touchdowns within Johnson County; and

WHEREAS, Johnson County and the National Weather Service have sought to provide accurate weather information to the public; and

WHEREAS, In order to provide critical weather information needed, Johnson County has sought to engage a network of training volunteer storms spotters; and

WHEREAS, The Johnson County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (A.R.E.S.)/Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (R.A.C.E.S.) group has developed a network of trained volunteer weather spotters; and

WHEREAS, The Johnson County A.R.E.S./R.A.C.E.S weather spotters provide countless volunteer hours annually and place themselves at time in harm’s way to provide vital weather information to Johnson County public safety officials and citizens.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Roger Harmon, County Judge of Johnson County, and we the Commissioners of the four Precincts in Johnson County, Texas, do hereby proclaim March 25, 2019 as:

AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR APPRECIATION DAY

in Johnson County and recognizes the invaluable work performed by the Johnson County A.R.E.S./R.A.C.E.S. amateur radio club.”
